Choosing Your Door Knob Style

There are three different types of door knobs:

  • Long backplate;
  • Short backplate; and
  • Rose

Depending on the type of knob you are interested in will determine what door handle functions are available.

Door Handle functions are determined depending on what type of door you are putting the door handle onto.

Here is a basic outline:

  • Passage- Internal doors with no need to lock. i.e. hallway and bedroom doors
  • Privacy- Internal doors with a ‘privacy’ lock. This ‘lock’ has an emergency release on the outside of the door. i.e. bathroom or toilet doors
  • Euro- External doors with a high security lock and a modern key
  • Traditional Keyhole- External doors with either a low or high security lock and an old fashioned ‘skeleton’ key
  • Dummy- Non-functional handles for one side of the door only. i.e. wardrobe or linen press doors

Knowing this, here are the different functions these different types of handles are available in:

  • Long backplate: Passage, Privacy, Euro, Traditional Keyhole, Dummy
  • Short backplate: Passage, Privacy, Dummy
  • Rose: Passage, Privacy, Euro (only premium) and Dummy
