With over 20 years of experience, each product is hand crafted by forging mild steel and hot forging brass, built to last for a lifetime. From Rags to Riches

1996 is when it all began. Mark Underhill, an ex-metal work teacher and joiner, and his wife Bernadette, began their journey of selling ironmongery and fixings to relevant businesses. Starting out small, they ran their business in a picturesque Welsh village, fueled by the passion that hand-forged solid steel products were unrivalled in strength and character. By 1998, Mark had designed his own range of traditional handmade ironmongery.

By 2000, the growing company became ‘From the Anvil’. The brand was launched, and the first product brochures were distributed, containing around 50 handmade products. Eventually this small range expanded into a new factory, and From the Anvil products began wholesaling to stockists throughout the UK. Some popular ranges included ‘Blacksmith Collection’ and the ‘Period Collection’.

Jumping to present day, in early 2022, the warehouse was expanded yet again to make way for the biggest product launch the company has had to date. New products became available including door handles, window hardware, and cabinet furniture & fittings. From the Anvil are continuing to create new products and matching finishes, while working on ideas to emphasize their quality artistry and refined design. Work has already begun for multiple new product launches in 2023, so make sure to keep an eye out for what is to come!

What is an Anvil?

An Anvil is a tool used by blacksmiths for centuries. A large block of metal featuring a face, step, hardy hole, pritchel hole and horn, these different parts of the anvil are used to mould products. The distinct curls of the monkey tail range, for example, are created using the horn – the conical beak at the front of the anvil. The ‘From the Anvil’ name is a proud nod to this ancient tool and technique which continued to play a core role in the creation of these products.
