Choosing Your Locks

Please see below, but we know this can get a bit complicated. Feel free to phone us for friendly assistance or click here to contact us by email.

Firstly, select the handle function by clicking on the small images to the right of the main image on the product page.

After selecting your handle function (in this case Traditional Keyhole which is the image with the small keyhole in the backplate), you will be asked a number of questions.
  1. Do you need a lock? (If you don't have an existing lock in the door you will need one for this handle to function)
  2. No, I have existing locks or I plan to purchase them separately - Select this option if you are replacing handles onto doors that have existing locks and you wish to retain them or you would like to purchase your locks separately.
  3. Yes, I need locks - Select this option if you are installing the handles onto a new door or if you wish to replace your existing locks. *You will be presented with Question 2.
  4. Are you installing this handle on a single or double door?
  5. Single - Select this answer if installing the handle on a single door. *A box will appear where you can select your lock and add both items to the cart.
  6. Double- Select this answer if installing the handle on a double door. *You will presented with Question 3.
  7. Are your doors rebated? - Rebated doors are double doors that overlap (meet) with a lip on the vertical edge.
  8. No - Select this option if your double doors are not rebated. See reference image. *A box will appear where you can select your lock and add both items to the cart.
  9. Yes - Select this option if your double doors are not rebated. See reference image. *A box will appear where you can select your lock and add both items to the cart.

At this stage, you will need to choose between different backset sizes and security levels.

The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the centre of where the handle will be installed. Please see the Measuring Your Backset page for more information (including images) on backsets.

The different security levels are:
  1. Low Security - Select this option for doors where only a low security lock is needed. This lock is suitable for external doors in areas where security is less important (e.g. regional areas)
  2. High Security - Select this option for doors where only a high security lock is needed. This lock is suitable for external doors in areas where security is important or required for insurance purposes (e.g. cities)

Once you have selected the correct lock, you can add the handles and latches to you shopping cart.

Please Note: The mortice lock is reversible, so there is no need to consider which side the door is hinged on. The lock utilises a reversible tongue.
