Entry Door Handlesets
Entry door handlesets bring the outside grip, inside handle and locking hardware together in a coordinated front door set. A traditional locking handleset combines a long exterior grip with a thumb-operated latch, an interior knob or lever and a deadbolt. Our range includes heritage and modern designs from Nostalgic Warehouse, Grandeur, Ageless Iron and N2Lok, with different functions and finishes to suit your entrance.
Choose the look you want, then check the function and measurements before ordering. Our guide to what an entry handleset is explains how these sets work.
Choose the right handleset function
The function determines how your front door locks and how you open it from inside. Available options vary by range:
- Single cylinder: a key operates the deadbolt outside, with a thumbturn inside.
- Double cylinder: the deadbolt requires a key on both sides.
- Interconnect: turning the inside handle retracts both the latch and deadbolt together. This option is available on selected N2Lok handlesets.
- Dummy set: a non-locking, non-latching set used to match the appearance of the working handleset on the inactive leaf of a double door.
For a closer comparison of the N2Lok options, read our entry handleset function guide. Select the function for how you want to use the door, as well as the style you prefer.
Check the fit before ordering
Compare the dimensions of the handleset with your door. For a replacement, measure your existing installation before removing the old hardware.
- Backset: measure from the door edge to the centre of the relevant handle or lock hole. Compare this with the supplied mechanism; our backset measuring guide shows what to check.
- Door thickness: check the supported thickness and any required spacers or spin rings. These requirements differ between ranges.
- Existing holes: compare the lock, latch and lower grip fixing positions, along with the sizes of any holes already drilled.
- Usable space: allow room for the backplates and grip on the door stile, clear of glass and raised mouldings.
- Door handing: if an option asks for left or right handing, follow that range's diagram or instructions before selecting it.
Coordinate your entrance and interior handles
Ornate backplates and curved grips suit a traditional entrance, while simpler shapes work well with a more restrained door design. Consider the interior knob or lever too, so the handleset feels consistent with the door handles throughout your home.
Brass, bronze, nickel, pewter and black finishes offer different looks, but finish names are not standardised across brands. Compare the specified finish when choosing complementary door hardware, including hinges, knockers and letter plates.
If you are planning several doors, our free door scheduling service can help you organise the hardware. Contact our team with your plans or a list of doors, your preferred styles and any existing hardware you need to match.
Entry door handleset FAQs
Locking entry handlesets generally include the internal and external handles plus the locks and latches specified for the selected function. Check the listed inclusions and optional fittings before ordering. A dummy set does not provide a working lock or latch.
You will usually choose a working handleset for the active door and a matching dummy set for the inactive door. Also check how the inactive leaf will be secured, and whether the meeting edges are rebated. An overlapping rebate may require compatible rebate fittings; these are not universal. Our French door hardware guide explains the parts to consider.
That depends on the fixing positions and backplate sizes. Matching the backset alone does not guarantee a replacement fit. Compare all fixing centres and plate dimensions, and allow for filling holes or refinishing exposed marks if the new set does not cover them.
Use the handing instructions provided for your chosen range, including the side of the door from which it should be viewed. If you are unsure, send our team photos showing the hinges and the direction the door opens. This is especially helpful when selecting an interior lever.
Yes, where the lock cylinders are compatible. Tell our team before ordering if you want several sets keyed alike, different keys for each door, or a match to an existing lock. Compatibility depends on the brand and cylinder type, so do not assume different ranges can share a key.
Lead times vary by brand and selection, and some ranges are imported or supplied to order. Check the lead time shown for your chosen finish and function before booking installation. Our team can help confirm timing if you are working towards a particular date.
