Door Stops
A well-chosen door stop protects the wall from your handle and adds a small finishing detail to the room. Choose classic oval and domed shapes, slim wall-mounted stops or magnetic holders in brass, black, chrome, nickel and antique finishes. Our collection includes traditional and contemporary designs to sit comfortably alongside your door hardware.
Wall or floor mounted?
- Wall-mounted door stops: a good choice when there is a suitable fixing point behind the door and you want to keep the floor clear. Longer projections help accommodate handles that stand further out from the door.
- Floor-mounted door stops: useful where a wall fixing is impractical. Low oval, domed and taller designs let you choose a shape that suits the room and the gap beneath the door.
The stop should meet a solid part of the door before the handle reaches the wall. For a wall-mounted stop, start with a projection longer than your handle's projection, then allow for the actual mounting position, skirting and door swing. For a floor stop, its height must be enough to meet the door rather than pass underneath it. Confirm the position with the door open before fixing.
Stopping the door or holding it open
A rubber bumper cushions the door when it reaches the stop; it does not hold it open. If you want the door to stay open, choose a magnetic door stop or a door holder with a hook.
Magnetic holders connect with a matching piece on the door and release when you pull the door away. A hook holder is secured and released by hand. The choice comes down to how you use the room: a magnet is convenient for everyday opening, while a hook gives a positive hold without relying on magnetic strength.
Coordinate the finish
Brass and antique tones work well with traditional timber doors, while black, chrome and nickel suit both classic and modern rooms. Use the colour and sheen of your door handles as a starting point. Matching finish names across brands do not guarantee the same appearance; our team can help you choose the closest match.
Door stop FAQs
Holding strength varies, and no general promise covers every door or gust of wind. Tell us about the door's size, weight and location so we can help identify suitable options. Where a positive hold is needed, a hook-style holder may be a better choice.
Some designs can be fitted to the door, wall or floor, but not every stop works in every position. Follow the mounting options for the selected design. With a magnetic holder, both pieces need to meet correctly when the door is open.
Fixing arrangements differ between designs and mounting surfaces. A supplied screw or concealed fixing is not a guarantee that the stop can be fitted to every floor or wall. Have your installer confirm the fixing method for your surface before drilling.
Measure the existing projection or height, base size and fixing positions, and note the gap beneath the door. The replacement needs to protect the handle even if its shape is different. If you are unsure, send our team a photo and measurements and we can help you choose.
