Tradco Traditional Keyhole Lever Handle Hardware Requirements

Do I Need a Lock?

A lock is the internal mechanism (installed inside the door) with the tongue protruding from the edge of the door. The lock is what makes the handles functional. Without a lock, the door would not be able to be closed and held in place or opened by turning the handle.

For a Traditional Keyhole handle, the lock, known commonly as a mortice lock, also incorporates a bolt which is thrown and retracted when the key is turned to lock and unlock the door. When the bolt is thrown into the door frame, it is what stops the door from opening.

For a fully functional Traditional Keyhole set you will require a set of Traditional Keyhole Handles and a Mortice Lock (with key).

If you are replacing existing door handles and have mortice locks installed in the door/s that you wish to use, in 98% of cases you can retain these and just replace the handles.
